مَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ دَاءً إِلاَّ أَنْزَلَ لَهُ شِفَاءً
There is no disease except its treatment

Hijama (Cupping) Is The Best Of Remedies
عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ
الشِّفَاءُ فِي ثَلَاثَةٍ فِي شَرْطَةِ مِحْجَمٍ أَوْ شَرْبَةِ عَسَلٍ أَوْ كَيَّةٍ بِنَارٍ وَأَنَا أَنْهَى أُمَّتِي عَنْ الْكَيِّ
Ibn Abbas reported:
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “There is healing in three: a cupping operation, a drink of honey, and cauterization with fire, but I forbid my nation from using cauterization.” Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī (5357).
عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ
إِنَّ أَمْثَلَ مَا تَدَاوَيْتُمْ بِهِ الْحِجَامَةُ وَالْقُسْطُ الْبَحْرِيُّ لَا تُعَذِّبُوا صِبْيَانَكُمْ بِالْغَمْزِ مِنْ الْعُذْرَةِ وَعَلَيْكُمْ بِالْقُسْطِ
Anas ibn Malik reported:
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, the best practice with which you treat yourselves is cupping and sea incense. Do not torture your children with sore throats by pressing their throats with your fingers, but rather you must use incense.” Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī (5371).
The Angels Recommending Hijama (Cupping)
عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ
مَا مَرَرْتُ لَيْلَةَ أُسْرِيَ بِي بِمَلَإٍ مِنَ الْمَلَائِكَةِ، إِلَّا كُلُّهُمْ، يَقُولُ لِيعَلَيْكَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ بِالْحِجَامَة
It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
“On the night on which I was taken on the Night Journey (Isra’), I did not pass by any group of angels but all of them said to me: ‘O Muhammad, you should use cupping.” Sahih Sunan ibn Majah (3477).
Hijama (Cupping) From The Sunnah
عَمْرِو بْنِ عَوْفٍ الْمُزَنِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ جَدِّي، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ
مَنْ أَحْيَا سُنَّةً مِنْ سُنَّتِي فَعَمِلَ بِهَا النَّاسُ، كَانَ لَهُ مِثْلُ أَجْرِ مَنْ عَمِلَ بِهَا، لَا يَنْقُصُ مِنْ أُجُورِهِمْ شَيْئًا، وَمَنِ ابْتَدَعَ بِدْعَةً فَعُمِلَ بِهَا، كَانَ عَلَيْهِ أَوْزَارُ مَنْ عَمِلَ بِهَا، لَا يَنْقُصُ مِنْ أَوْزَارِ مَنْ عَمِلَ بِهَا شَيْئًا
Kathir bin ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr bin ‘Awf Al-Muzani said:
My father told me narrating from my grandfather, that the Messenger of Allah said: “Whoever revives a Sunnah of mine, which people then act upon, will have a reward equivalent to that of those who act upon it, without that detracting from their reward in the slightest. And whoever introduces an innovation (Bid’ah) that is acted upon, will have a burden of sins equivalent to that of those who act upon it, without that detracting from the burden of those who act upon it in the slightest.” Sunan ibn Majah (209).
Hijama (Cupping) Is A Preventative Medicine
عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ
مَنْ أَرَادَ الْحِجَامَةَ، فَلْيَتَحَرَّ سَبْعَةَ عَشَرَ، أَوْ تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ، أَوْ إِحْدَى وَعِشْرِينَ، وَلَا يَتَبَيَّغْ بِأَحَدِكُمُ الدَّمُ فَيَقْتُلَهُ
It was narrated from Anas bin Malik that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
“Whoever wants to be cupped, let him seek out the seventeenth, nineteenth or twenty-first (of the month); and let none of you allow his blood to rage so that it kills him.” Sunan ibn Majah (3486).
In Hijama (Cupping) There Is A Cure and Blessing
أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ يُحَدِّثُ
أَنَّ يَهُودِيَّةً جَعَلَتْ سَمًّا فِي لَحْمٍ ثُمَّ أَتَتْ بِهِ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِنَحْوِ حَدِيثِ خَالِدٍ
Anas b. Malik reported that:
” A Jewess brought poisoned meat and then served it to Allah’s Messenger ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم )”. Sahih Muslim (5706).
The Best Days For Hijama (Cupping)
عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ
يَا نَافِعُ، قَدْ تَبَيَّغَ بِيَ الدَّمُ، فَالْتَمِسْ لِي حَجَّامًا وَاجْعَلْهُ رَفِيقًا إِنِ اسْتَطَعْتَ، وَلَا تَجْعَلْهُ شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا وَلَا صَبِيًّا صَغِيرًا، فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، يَقُولُ الْحِجَامَةُ عَلَى الرِّيقِ أَمْثَلُ، وَفِيهِ شِفَاءٌ وَبَرَكَةٌ، وَتَزِيدُ فِي الْعَقْلِ وَفِي الْحِفْظِ، فَاحْتَجِمُوا عَلَى بَرَكَةِ اللَّهِ يَوْمَ الْخَمِيسِ، وَاجْتَنِبُوا الْحِجَامَةَ يَوْمَ الْأَرْبِعَاءِ، وَالْجُمُعَةِ وَالسَّبْتِ، وَيَوْمَ الْأَحَدِ تَحَرِّيًا، وَاحْتَجِمُوا يَوْمَ الِاثْنَيْنِ وَالثُّلَاثَاءِ، فَإِنَّهُ الْيَوْمُ الَّذِي عَافَى اللَّهُ فِيهِ أَيُّوبَ مِنَ الْبَلَاءِ، وَضَرَبَهُ بِالْبَلَاءِ يَوْمَ الْأَرْبِعَاءِ، فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَبْدُو جُذَامٌ وَلَا بَرَصٌ، إِلَّا يَوْمَ الْأَرْبِعَاءِ أَوْ لَيْلَةَ الْأَرْبِعَاءِ
It was narrated that Ibn ‘Umar said:
“O Nafi’! The blood is boiling in me, find me a cupper, but let it be someone gentle if you can, not an old man or a young boy. For I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: ‘Cupping on an empty stomach is better, and in it there is healing and blessing, and it increases one’s intellect and memory. So have yourselves cupped for the blessing of Allah on Thursdays, and avoid cupping on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Have yourselves cupped on Mondays and Tuesdays, for that is the day on which Allah relieved Ayyub of Calamity, and He inflicted calamity upon him on a Wednesday, and leprosy and leukoderma only appear on Wednesdays, or on the night of Wednesday.” Sunan ibn Majah (3487).
Hijama (Cupping) May Be Used For Headache
عَنْ جَدَّتِهِ سَلْمَى خَادِمِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَتْ
مَا كَانَ أَحَدٌ يَشْتَكِي إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَجَعًا فِي رَأْسِهِ إِلَّا قَالَ: احْتَجِمْ، وَلَا وَجَعًا فِي رِجْلَيْهِ إِلَّا قَالَ: اخْضِبْهُمَا
It was narrated that Salma said:
The maid-servant of the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم, said: “No one complained to the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم of a headache but he told him to get himself cupped, or of a pain in his legs but he told him to dye them with henna”. Sahih Sunan abi Dawood (3858).
Dislocation/Bruising
عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَبَسَةَ، قَالَ
أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَىُّ الْجِهَادِ أَفْضَلُ قَالَ “ مَنْ أُهْرِيقَ دَمُهُ وَعُقِرَ جَوَادُهُ ” .
It was narrated that ‘Amr bin ‘Abasah said:
“I came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, which Jihad is best?’ He said: ‘(That of a man) whose blood is shed and his horse is wounded”. Sunan ibn Majah (2807).
Hijama (Cupping) While fasting Or In The State Of Ihram
عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ احْتَجَمَ وَهُوَ مُحْرِمٌ فِي رَأْسِهِ مِنْ شَقِيقَةٍ كَانَتْ بِهِ
Ibn `Abbas further said:
“Allah’s Apostle was cupped on his head for a unilateral headache while he was in a state of Ihram”. Sahih al-Bukhari (5701).
عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ
احْتَجَمَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ صَائِمٌ
Narrated Ibn `Abbas:
“The Prophet was cupped while he was fasting”. Sahih al-Bukhari (5694).
Hijama (Cupping) For Women
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى أَخْبَرَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ح و حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ح و حَدَّثَنِي بِشْرُ بْنُ خَالِد
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ح و حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ بَشَّارٍ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ كِلَاهُمَا عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ح و حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ خَلَّادٍ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى وَهُوَ الْقَطَّانُ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ كُلُّ هَؤُلَاءِ عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ بِإِسْنَادِ جَرِيرٍ فِي حَدِيثِ هُشَيْمٍ وَشُعْبَةَ مَسَحَهُ بِيَدِهِ قَالَ وَفِي حَدِيثِ الثَّوْرِيِّ مَسَحَهُ بِيَمِينِهِ و قَالَ فِي عَقِبِ حَدِيثِ يَحْيَى عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ قَالَ فَحَدَّثْتُ بِهِ مَنْصُورًا فَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ بِنَحْوِهِ
This hadith has been reported on the authority of Shu’ba through another chain of transmitters (and the words are):
“He rubbed him with his hand and (in) the hadith transmitted on the authority of Thauri (the words are). He used to rub with his right hand. This hadith has been reported through another chain of transmitters”. Sahih Muslim (5708).
